Channelize Energy for Humanity

                             Channelize Energy for Humanity

During our school days we had subject of SUPW (Socially Useful Productive Work). It involved cleaning our class rooms, corridors, maintaining garden, manning traffic at junction, helping patients at hospital and innumerable activities. Once we were taken to two night stay at S.O.S Children’s Village.. Today as I look back, each of the activity we did were channelization of our energy into a fruitful process directed at welfare of humanity.

Voluntary service or act is our attitude towards society we live in. We may not have any monetary stack to dole out. But there may be a child who need help tide over academic difficulty.  Here with your reservoir of knowledge you may help the child overcome difficulties and built up his career. Nothing is visible to naked eyes, yet society is getting benefitted by such a small act. TEACH INDIA, an initiative of Times of India is classic example.  According to Sanjeev Kaura, CEO of Times of India’s CSR division, it all happened with finding of survey around 2010 on children’s vocabulary skills amongst slums of Delhi. It revealed the children had average vocabulary of 250 English words. It was decided to raise this level to 900 words which can help an individual to apply for a job and do basic errands.  British Council consented to share its expertise.  Today it is an all India project with thousands of volunteers who have passion for education carrying out mission. Companies like Tech Mahindra, KFC etc. have actually hired the TEACH INDIA educated youths into their operations.

SOS Children’s Village is a part of initiative by Austrian philanthropist Hermann Gmeiner.  This is a care provider for orphans, with concept of clustered family. Each village comprised of few Houses, each House headed by a mother (a staff of SOS) and having 10-12 children under her being brought up as brothers and sisters. During the stay we interacted with theses children as their elder brothers n sisters. Also helped Mother with domestic errands.  Our presence brought cheers to the children and even helped Mother ease the work load for some duration.

Although technology has made the world a Global Village, it’s not without its own drawbacks.  People move out of house, cities or even countries to work at other places. Thus leaving behind aging parents.  The parents may be equipped with latest gizmos but the warmth of human is missing.  It is very pleasant feeling to be with such people for some duration, talk to them, and help them express out. There is nothing like making a cup of tea or coffee for them .Then listening to their valued experiences over this chat.

Blood is an essential part of our body that cannot be manufactured by any technology. Many accident victims could survive only because there is army of Voluntary Blood Donors.  It is small quantity drawn out of your body. This blood is replenished inside you naturally. Each unit that you donate goes to save not just one person but many who may be administered its required component eg platelets etc. Since lot of misconceptions still prevail about bio donations in our country, one can even participate in various campaigns directed towards raising awareness.

Historical monuments are testimonies of our past. Just as we keep our present’s living neat and clean, it is equally essential to maintain our heritages too. Visitors often strew garbage at these places making them unhygienic and even unvisitable.  We just cannot afford someone’s shabby habits ruin our lives and places. Whenever and wherever possible we should participate in cleanliness and upkeep campaigns of these sites.

There is no prescribed timing on your devoting for social cause. It only demands your commitment, empathy and miniscule of time. You are in course actually helping people in need (senior citizens or patients) , working for future of community(for students build up career for themselves) or even helping a cause( upkeep of your past).
